Transformation’s of the Year 2015: Kim Lesley King

Meet Kim king (known as Kim Wright), aged 56 and this is her transformation story.

Before Kim’s Transformation

Before I was so unhealthy,  I never exercised.  I ate a lot of junk food and drank red wine most nights. I also ate lots off crisps, pizza and other stuff that’s bad for you. I got up to a size 16.

Kim’s Amazing Transformation Story

I went on holiday to Spain and when I got back I knew I had to do something.  I looked awful so I joined a gym, xercise4less, and I used a personal trainer for a month. I did not relise how unfit and unhealthy I was.

He said I needed to follow his plan. Nutrition was good advice, plenty protein and good carbs. After a month with Kyle, I could see my weight was dropping off by doing pad work and lots cardio.

Kim King Transformation Kim Wright Transformation

To be honest this has changed my life. I am total addicted to my fitness and my nutrition.  I allow one cheat meal a week and I don’t drink alcohol anymore. I eat clean, no junk. I eat eggs, chicken, fish, brown rice, sweet potatoes. If I go out I take my food with me!

Before I was over 11 stone. Now I’m 8.5 ..I’m now doing weights to get more toned. Last year I entered a bikini fitness for transformation and came 2nd. For me at 55, this was a big achievement. Also 2 weeks ago I passed my kettlebell course and now I can start teaching!

I feel amazing, I feel younger, look younger and I feel fit. I wished I done this year’s ago!

Kim’s Advice For You & Your Transformation

Don’t say tomorrow, do it today. If I can achieve my transformation at my age then anyone can. It took me a year to look like this. 75% is your diet. You must take a look what and how much you eat.

I want to inspire people my age and 45 over. Never too old!

Transformation’s of the Year 2015: Paul Walker

Meet Paul Kirke Walker, Age 34, Edinburgh, who came from a near death bowel disease to competing on stage at Pure Elite in 2015!

Before Paul’s Transformation

I was desperately ill and not expected to survive more than a few days.  After suffering from a severe bowel disease, Ulcerative Colitis for 15 years, my condition became so serious that I had to have 2.5kg of intestines (my whole colon) removed and replaced with a colostomy bag.

At that point my weight was only 50kg and I had lost the ability to walk.  A year later, I put myself forward for further major surgery to remove the need for the colostomy bag but complications left me again at just above 50kg and hospitalised for week.

Paul’s Amazing Transformation Story

After I had medically recovered, my body was still shattered and I was desperately thin and week.  I started working with Mark Matthews who put together a training and diet program to put my medical problems behind me and get into the best shape of my life.

I started weight training 5-6 days per week and kept a carefully monitored diet to feed my growth without adding too much body fat.  This was particularly challenging as, without a full digestive system, I extract less nutrition from food than other people.

Pure Elite Scotland Paul Walker Transformation Story

I kept it consistent simply by making the gym the centre of my world and my sessions the focal point of my day.  I had no shortage of inspiration as every time I looked in the mirror I saw a thin, frail version of me looking back but, as time moved on and I started to see results, they spurred me on even more.  Additionally, my coach, Mark, is hugely inspirational and encouraging.

The end result was that I was able to appear at Pure Elite in the Beach Body and Transformation categories in Hayes in September 2015, only 9 months after first shuffling weakly back into the gym.

It has given me a huge sense of pride and achievement to transform and compete in Pure Elite and also the confidence that adversity can be overcome with hard work and determination.

Paul’s Advice For You & Your Transformation

Make sure that you monitor your progress with regular weigh-ins and progress photos.  They will give you an objective measure of your progress as well as encouraging you to keep working at it. You also need to understand before you start that this is not a short term project, it takes a serious, almost obsessive amount of investment in terms of time and effort.  It can’t be a January wonder.

Lucy Doyle: 20 Things I Would Tell My Newbie Self

  1. Having abs will not complete you as a person.
  2. You won’t always feel pumped after a gym session.
  3. Most women’s tummies hang a little when they get into a plank, its normal.
  4. No matter the expression on other women’s faces, they will be struggling just as much holding plank position; they’ve just managed to smile better than you.
  5. Egg whites will never taste delicious, regardless of what you make with them.
  6. You are not the only one pretending to adore dark chocolate.
  7. Just because everyone raves about peanut butter in the fitness world, it does not mean you can eat as much of it as you want.
  8. Compression clothing. Invest.
  9. However, never wear a sports bra too tight to the gym. It always ends in awkward moments in the changing rooms.
  10.   Be mindful of what you hashtag, it will come back to haunt  you #cleaneating #fitfam
  11.   Every fitspo you follow carries their own problems.  Their lives are not perfect no matter how it looks on social media.
  12.   Do not wear grey leggings to the gym. You will regret it.
  13. Pullups are hard. Period.
  14. If you do miss the gym for just one week, you will feel like a complete newbie when you return. Get over it, the feeling passes in just one session.
  15. Do not get your goals confused with others; stick with what is important to you.
  16. Buy supplements one at a time, no matter how over excited you get or how much you get in your paid that month.
  17. Be kind and smile at other women during exercise, they are just as nervous as you.
  18. You haven’t got to get sponsored to have achieved something.
  19. Your goals and dreams will change; don’t be afraid to change with them.
  20. No matter what people say you have not got to “go hard or go home” and neither do you have to get your “ass to grass”. Who does squats on grass anyway?

Till next time,

Lucy Doyle

Transformation’s of the Year 2015: Chris Pearson

Meet Chris Pearson, 30 years old and from Newcastle. This is his awesome transformation story!

Before Chris’ Transformation

Before my transformation I was frustrated at never being able to be consistent enough to get to where I wanted to get. I was lethargic, pretty unhappy at how I looked. I trained a lot but my diet meant I wasn’t seeing the benefits of it and wasn’t getting the best from my training.

Chris’ Amazing Transformation Story & USN Body Makeover

I decided I needed to commit to something specific so I took the USN Body Makeover Challenge. I took charge of the situation and decided enough was enough and this time I was going to try harder than I ever had. I got a coach and told everyone what I was going to do which gave me accountability which I had never had before.

My coach had contact with me almost daily which kept me accountable. The biggest difference though is just taking the time to prepare in advance. I lived one day ahead, always prepped for the next day and planned when I could train. This way all I had to do was get up and do it! If something happened that meant I was late or out too long  had already prepped so I never strayed from my goals.

USN Body Makeover Challenge Chris Pearson Transformation Story

My end result was awesome. I looked much better than I ever had in my life after my 12 week target and exceeded my own expectations. My aim was vague and simply to be in the best shape of my life. I felt my results were good enough that I decided to compete at SFN EXPO in 2015. Something I never thought I could do but I did it and loved it! I started my transformation in March, finished the 12 weeks in June and competed at the end of August. Since then I have had an eye on 2016 and trained to give myself the potential to be better than 2015. I’ve also been trying to help and encourage others on their own similar journeys.

This is the best feeling ever. 2015 is the best year I have had and i’m in no doubt that was due to my transformation. I improved myself inside and out and that improved every aspect of my life

Chris’ Advice For You & Your Transformation

Go for it. The best bit of advice I can give is don’t put it off, dive in, commit and even if you can’t envisage where you will end up just go for it and enjoy the journey and see!

Transformation’s of the Year 2015: Tracy Eden Larby

Meet Tracy Eden Larby from London, and this is her transformation story.

Before Tracy’s Transformation

Before my transformation, I’d tried so many times to lose weight, cutting the calories to ridiculously low levels, doing endless cardio, each time failing, leaving me feeling a little more depressed about my body with every ditched diet attempt.

Tracy’s Transformation Story

Mid 2014 I stopped dieting and started eating clean instead. I ate all of my favourite foods but made everything myself. It was never hard work as I loved cooking and it saved me money!
I didn’t do it for weightloss, more for health but after 4 months, friends, family, colleagues and people at the gym were congratulating me on my weightloss. I didn’t even notice it!
Tracy Eden Larby Transformation Story Bodybulding
I had more energy to workout and started doing HIIT, something I never thought possible, by February 2015 I’d gone from a size 16 to a 10, by working out less and eating more. It wasn’t an effort anymore, it was just a happy part of my daily routine.
But, I’m a fan of a challenge, so decided to enter into a bodybuilding competition, with only 2 months to train for it. I barely lifted weights before so I new id have to invest in a trainer, and it was the best present I have ever bought myself. In that time, I went from a slim 10 to a ripped 6 without starvation or endless hours in the gym.

Tracy’s Advice For You & Your Transformation

My advice to anyone wanting to transform in 2016, up your protein and lift heavy, especially you ladies!

Transformation’s of the Year 2015: Jo Sagar

Meet Jo Sagar, 44 years old, from West Yorkshire – this is Jo’s transformation story!

Before Jo’s Transformation

Outwardly I look extremely confident and no one would know I suffered with self doubt – I felt I had to try and make up for my ‘short comings’I have trained since my teenage years but mainly cardio related and my food choices were not the best just eating for satiety not thinking about health.

I was at a very low point a couple of years ago and sort medical assistance I changed the way I exercised and began to understand how my food choices could not only assist my training but help me live a healthy lifestyle.

Jo’s Amazing Transformation Story

I was recommended a fantastic PT who introduced me to weight training. My confidence started to increase. It was suggested that I take part in the 12 week USN Body Makeover Challenge which I have recently completed. This was a clear goal that kept me on track on run upto Christmas

Consistency was the easy part. I never wanted to go back to the dark place I was in before. Not once would I miss a training session and not once would I miss a rep.

Jo Sagar Transformation USN Body Makeover Challenge

For me my journey continues as I plan to help as many people (especially women in my age group). I want other people to feel as good as I do. But aesthetically my body fat has reduced also.

I feel euphoric!! And hopefully my enthusiasm for the healthy lifestyle is infectious with a number of people taking on board my advice!

Jo’s Advice For You & Your Transformation

Keep on it no matter what. Take a photo of yourself and remember how you truly felt at that time and remember there are no excuses!! Help others on their journey’s as sharing your success and seeing others transform is the best feeling in the world.

Lucy Doyle Goes Veggie – Week 1

So I now have a whole week of vegetarian diet eating under my belt and I am feeling rather smug.  Being a keen foodie I certainly didn’t find it a massive shock to the system, but it has definitely thrown up lots of things I need to think more about in the coming weeks

Trying a Vegetarian Diet Week 1 – The Stats!

For detailed daily breakdowns, don’t forget to follow me on My Fitness Pal www.myfitnesspal.com/TheSisterhood

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 21.16.43I guess if this had been a “pro” doing this challenge and cataloguing the journey, it would have been a military execution with every tiny detailed planned. I am no pro, just a busy mum who seems to spend the majority of her day light hours chasing her tail.

This means I didn’t really prepare in the traditional sense, by that I mean I didn’t plan my menu for the week and then shop for it. I instead opted for the “I have too much on my metaphorical plate” option, which left me winging it from day one.

Brave, stupid or both I didn’t really have much time to ponder on that, but what was evident was that I had a pretty good supply of nutritious foods readily available to me, without having to raid my nearest Wholefoods store (I haven’t actually got a Wholefoods store anywhere near me truth be told, it’s that buzz name that everyone likes to refer to when writing about healthy eating).

Breakfasts were pretty much a no brainer; eggs seem like the perfect go to. However by the end of the week I was left thinking that eating eggs every single morning, was not something I was looking forward to. After all it was now a source of protein that I would probably want to consider for lunch and dinners.

try a vegetarian diet lucy doyle

Trying a Vegetarian Diet Week 1 – Breakfast

So my breakfast champion ended up being Oat bran (the inside part of the oat grain) with milk and a scoop of whey.  I have always loved Oat bran over rolled oats because it is higher in protein, lower in calories and contains lots more fibre and in particular a fibre called Beta Glucan which studies have shown helps lower cholesterol.

Lots of reasons right there of why it makes a great egg free veggie breakfast, but being honest even more so for me it’s because it cooks in minutes and fills my greedy belly right up and I stay full for a few hours!

Trying a Vegetarian Diet Week 1 – Lunch

Lunch leads to eggs and some cool ideas for how to enjoy them.  I like food that I can grab on the go, otherwise I know I will end up in Starbucks with a Panini. By simply whisking up a few eggs and using various herbs and chopped veg like in the picture above using sweet pointed peppers and crumbles feta cheese. You simply grease a cake/muffin tin and bake the mixtures in the oven for around 15 minutes.  You are left with these awesome mini omelettes that can be stored for a few days in the fridge.

Trying a Vegetarian Diet Week 1 – Dinner

Dinner was probably the meal I most looked forward to but also the meals that I quickly became overwhelmed with. I had several great ideas, but after that my brain was like tumbleweed and google just seemed to show every meal that was incompatible with that thing called “hectic family life”. What I did make was divine, curries and a bean stew; however by Sunday I was calling on veggie expert Toral from The Urban Kitchen for some inspiration (more about her next week).

Trying a Vegetarian Diet Week 1 – The Stats!

The elephant in the room is my stats progress, so let me take a minute to cover that.  I haven’t done this as a weight loss experiment, I have done it to try and give an honest and true account woman to woman without an ulterior motive.  Yes I have dropped over a kilo, but we have just hit the other side of Christmas where like many, I over indulged. Do I think this weight loss is down to my newly begun veggie diet? Nope. I believe it’s because I am no longer working through a tub of Celebrations and the little bitesize Stollen from Aldi that I just couldn’t stop eating.

Already I can see that if I do not smarten up my knowledge and create more time, I will begin relying on that clichéd “bread and cheese” diet filler. This week will be full on research and I aim to plan, well just a soon as I finish this article and walk my dog and…

Scotland’s Largest Health & Fitness Exhibition

Fitness Exhibition

Are you looking for a fitness exhibition in the UK? SFN EXPO is the perfect platform to showcase your brand. Here is our B2C Marketing Top Tip.

We are fortunate to meet a lot of fitness startups through SFN EXPO and often they will ask us for advice on marketing their business. People get caught in the blinding lights of email automation, Facebook tracking pixels and using every social media platform. The problem is many people are entering saturated markets without focusing on the most important factor – the product/service.

James Watt (Captain and Co-Founder of BrewDog) discusses this in his new book ‘Business for Punks: Break All the Rules – the BrewDog Way,’ and how over the last four years BrewDog has officially been the fastest growing food and drink producer in the UK and simultaneously the fastest growing bar and restaurant operator.

‘In the early days of your business it’s paramount you and your team spend time on getting your product offering or service right, not on hiring sales or marketing person. Your product needs to be chopped, tuned and ready to roll. Made so awesome people are gagging for it, creating its own buzz and, in turn, fuelling its own demand.’

By being focused and passionate about your business like BrewDog Co-Founders James Watt and Martin Dickie you create a community that will promote your business. Creating a ‘Tribe’ is a common goal for many companies, however, people want to believe in your business before they buy into it. You can see from social media that the team at BrewDog love beer and their army of Punks – their ‘tribe’ – engage with them. Does it work? Well, BrewDog broke the UK record by raising £4.25 million last December through crowdfunding.

Transformation’s of the Year 2015: Andrew Simpson

Meet Andy Simpson, 31, Newcastle and this is his awesome 2015 transformation story.

Before Andrew’s Transformation

Physically I was overweight, lethargic and obsessed with weight and lifting as much as possible. Diet was horrendous, as many calories as I could with no regard for my macros. I was completely ignorant to dietary needs. I was lazy!
Andrew Simpson Transformation Inspirational Story

Andrew’s Amazing Transformation Story

I realised I had to train smart and efficient. I studied nutrition in my spare time along with my fiancé. She was great in helping me with dietary targets. Worked out all macros and really looked into what my body needed compared to what I was previously eating.
Discipline was key. I had to really switch on to my goal. A 12 week cut. No deviation from it however much I was tempted.
End result was 15% drop in body fat, 23% to 8%.
Drop from 14 stone 10 to 12 stone 10. All fat and unnecessary weight.
Most important, felt so much better physically and mentally. Bad side of this was an expensive change of wardrobe. AND IM STILL LIFTING AS HEAVY AS EVER!
First it was tough and I felt I had taken on too much. By the end I felt great and still do. Ready for my next challenge.

Andrew’s Advice For You & Your Transformation

If you get your head right and in the right mode it’s easier than you think. Have some drive, determination and a clear goal.
